The Goal:
Your main objective is to manage an American football team and lead them to win the championship, the Retro bowl . You act as the coach and general manager.
Core Gameplay (During Matches):
Offense Only: You only control your team when they have the ball (on offense). The defense plays automatically (simulated).
Passing is Key:
When it's time to pass, your Quarterback (QB) drops back.
You'll see routes run by your receivers.
Tap and drag backwards from the QB to aim your pass. A dotted line shows the trajectory.
Release your finger to throw the ball. Lead your receiver – throw to where they will be, not where they are.
Running the Ball:
Often, your Running Back (RB) will handle running plays automatically if you don't pass immediately.
Sometimes, if you aim your pass behind the line of scrimmage (the starting line), your QB might run instead.
After catching the ball, players run automatically, but you can swipe up or down to try and juke defenders.
Kicking:
For field goals and extra points, a kicking meter appears.
Tap once to start the power meter.
Tap again to set the power and stop the accuracy line as close to the center as possible.
Team Management (Between Matches):
Roster Management:
You manage a roster of players (QB, RB, Wide Receivers, Tight End, Offensive Linemen, Kicker, and Defensive players).
Players have ratings (stars), potential, condition (health), and morale. Keep them happy and healthy!
Deal with contracts and decide whether to keep or trade players.
Drafting: At the end of each season, you participate in the draft to pick new young players for your team.
Free Agents: You can sign experienced players between games if you have salary cap space.
Upgrades: Use "Coach Credits" (CCs - the game's currency earned through playing or bought) to:
Upgrade stadium, training facilities, and rehab facilities.
Hire better coaches (Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator).
Boost player morale or condition.
Extend player contracts.
Coach Credits (CCs): These are crucial for improving your team, signing key players, and managing difficult situations. You earn them by winning games, meeting owner goals, and making good plays.
Winning:
Score more points than your opponent by scoring touchdowns and field goals.
Manage your team effectively off the field to build a strong roster capable of competing.
Progress through the season, make the playoffs, and win the Retro Bowl!
Retro Bowl is loved for its simple controls, charming retro graphics, and surprisingly deep team management elements. It's easy to pick up but challenging to master!
